Selling VoIP - How to choose the right VoIP company...
10 important points when picking a VoIP provider...
You might guess that success in a
home based VoIP sales business can hinge on the VoIP provider that you pick.
Sales will often be the result from your own success as a sales and marketing
person, but building a profitable business depends on other factors, such as the
company for whom you choose to become a reseller. And all VoIP companies
are not created equal, nor are
their compensations plans, services,
support staff and reputation. By doing your homework early in the game you
can feel more confident that the business you build will stay profitable and you
won't have to change horses in mid-stream, loosing momentum and money.
Consider these 10 points when becoming a VoIP reseller or
affiliate:
-
The financial stability of the
provider. Knowing that the provider will be in business for
years to come is important. You need to know that they have good
financial stability and a commitment to the industry. You are putting
in your valuable resources, both time and effort, and don't want to be
building a customer base which can disappear. Remember, generating a
residual income needs to be for the long term - and your supplier has to be
in it with you for the duration.
-
The VoIP provider needs to have
both residential plans and a business plans. Selling is all
about choices, one shoe size does not fit all. Choose a provider that
offers several plans not just one. But, too many choices may be a
negative, so a balanced offering with an International plan or low
International rates is a plus. They should have a couple or
residential choices, plus a business product. Selling business
accounts is more lucrative and will make you more money, so check out the
type of business accounts the provider offers and make sure they offer a
hosted VoIP service and SIP trunking services.
-
VoIP is about the quality of
service. If the quality of the service is poor it will not
matter how cheap the plans are, or how large the commissions are, as the
customers will not be happy. And this will cause your churn rate to
become unacceptable. Loosing customers over quality issues that are
the result of a poor provider will quickly make your business suffer.
VoIP is not a service that will be trouble free 100% of the time, so
realistic expectations by both you the reseller and the customer are
important, but a provider that has a poor service will too much of a hurdle
to overcome.
-
Your VoIP provider's overall
pricing. To be attractive to your customers and make
selling easier the plans you are going to offer need to be reasonably priced
when compared to traditional services and competitive VoIP services.
That is not to say they need to beat all the competition, but it is to say
that they should present a good value. The lowest priced service is
equally not the answer, as in some cases you get what you pay for, so use
good judgment and look at the whole package when it comes to pricing.
-
The feature sets included in the
plans. Features sell plans, so in general the more features
offered the better. Each potential customer will generally look for a
basic set of features and then they may have a particular feature(s) that
are a specific critical need for them and their use. If your plan has
those extra features it becomes a deal maker. This can be particularly
true of commercial hosted VoIP accounts, so look carefully at the plans and
take notice of what features may be added only at an extra charge.
